What Are Nickel Composites

Nickel composites are a very cost efficient way to build a protective metallic shield that is virtually indestructible, which makes it very useful in many industries. Not only does the material resist corrosion from both water and air, but it is also fire resistant thanks to its special properties. Additionally, the material’s very high strength-to-weight ratio allows it to be used for constructing many types of protective coatings. In fact, it is so durable that some engineers consider it to be stronger than steel in many situations.

Nickel-Zirconia composites are also popularly used in the aerospace and defense industry for its corrosion resistance. The material has been in use for decades, and is often used as the main component in bullet-resistant vests, bullet-proof vests, and various other protective coatings. The extremely high tensile strength, and excellent corrosion resistance make nickel-zirconia one of the most ideal materials for protective coating applications in these arenas.

One of the most common occurrences is in the automotive industry. A coating on the metal and plastic body work of a car, caravan or motorcycle is usually enough to keep away the effects of rust for the lifetime of the car. This is one of the reasons why you are unlikely to see the old “rust buckets” from the 1970’s and 80’s on the road. The vehicle is simply better protected from the elements.
