What you need to know about visiting Monaco

Monaco has become synonymous with glamour and glitz as well as a home for the famous and wealthy. Although often expensive and occasionally ostentatious, Monaco is an irresistible destination where tourists stop to soak up the affluent atmosphere in locations such as Monte Carlo, the most acclaimed area within the small principality.

What You Must See

If starting early, you can experience much of Monaco in only half a day, with a short trip to Monte Carlo to experience the Opera and Casino included. For many, the casino is a must-see – a large complex boasting numerous cafes and restaurants, beautiful and extensive grounds and gardens and even a museum.

Ensure that you do not miss exploring the souvenir shops, beautiful villas, Jardin Exotique and other glorious gardens and attractive small squares in Monaco-Ville.

Travelling Around

The land border of Monaco is a mere 3.4 miles, and coastline is just 2.38 miles, but although distances are short, Monaco is made up of many hills, meaning that making the most of public transport can be wise.

Monaco has an efficient but small transport system, with buses costing €5.50 for a day pass or €2 for each journey. Many bus routes also pass close to the dock, which is particularly useful for tourists from cruise ships who want to explore the principality.

Some tourists with more time visit Nice, which is around a 26-minute journey by train, as Monaco’s train station is close to the harbour.

Eating and Drinking

Drinking and eating is expensive in Monaco, particularly near the Casino.

Ensure that you sample some of the local delicacies that the area is famous for, including pastries, pies and seafood.

The Best Time to Visit

August and July are the busiest and hottest times in Monaco, and you will want to be sure to pack some Farah Shirts, like the ones you can find at https://www.ejmenswear.com/men/farah , but the weather is frequently good for most of autumn and spring, and with a calendar of cultural events and exhibitions, there is always a good time to visit Monaco.
