We see cars every day of our lives and so it is easy for us to take them for granted. So, in honour of our favourite form of transport, here are some fun car facts:

Done for speeding?

The world’s first ever speeding ticket was handed out in 1902. You wouldn’t think cars could go that fast back then, but this speedy motorist was caught doing a whopping 45 mph! Upside down

Today’s Formula 1 racing cars drive so fast that they could pull off a Sci-fi movie manoeuvre and travel upside down through a tunnel if they were going at 120 mph. As the cars create approximately 3.5G when they corner, they could create enough downforce aerodynamically to drive through a tunnel upside down!

Moon landing?

If you drove in a straight line at a constant speed of 60mph, it would take you less than a month to reach the moon. Considering the average driver in the UK spends 99 days of their lives stuck in traffic, this doesn’t seem like too much of a hardship!
