The popularity of bacon is confirmed by the regular appearances of classic bacon butties, bacon and eggs, sausage with bacon, and, for something a little posher, bacon with brie and cranberry.
Top 5 fillings also include ham with cheese (ploughman’s), basic cheese and onion, and tuna mayo.
The British love cheese in all its forms. It appears seven times in the top thirty choices, along with Branston pickle, as well as cheese with tomato receiving nominations.
Meat Lovers
It seems that meat is the filling of choice for sandwiches. Of the 87 options, 59 percent include meat.
Variety is important for those who don’t eat meat. The UK’s vegetarians enjoy avocado, beetroot and pickled onions, as well as hummus with carrots and sultana.
